Wonderbao is a beloved Melbourne-born, family-run bao institution that has spent over a decade turning a humble staple into an Australian favourite. Founded in 2012 by Andrew and Tina, Wonderbao carries three generations of bao-making heritage, tracing back to Andrew’s grandparents who began sharing their buns with the local community after migrating to Australia. With a simple mission: to make bao that are consistently delicious, beautiful, and unmistakably theirs. Wonderbao works closely with Australian suppliers and uses local ingredients wherever possible. Even after closing their A’Beckett Street flagship during the pandemic, Wonderbao’s spirit never dimmed. The team continues to craft their signature Hong Kong–style bao and Taiwanese gua bao for events, wholesale partners, and home cooks across the country. Their menu blends tradition with playful innovation, from classic BBQ pork to silken tofu gua bao, soft-shell crab creations and even ice cream bao.
